In Solidarity with Egyptian Journalists : a Week without Newspapers

In Solidarity with Egyptian Journalists and their quest to fight corruption and to get the freedom of expression they deserve, that we the Egyptian people deserve , the freedom of expression we ,the Egyptian people look for even from the time of Kingdom of Egypt , the freedom of expression that different generations of Journalists fought ,fight and will fight for in Egypt including my late great grand father who until his last days stood with all his syndication decisions ,I call you all the readers of this blog or visitors whether you are Egyptians or foreigners who live in Egypt to stand with the Journalists in their daring decision
please don't buy any newspaper starting from Sunday next week for a week except for Monday as El-Masry El-Youm is going to be published only in that week on that day
I call you to boycott all the governmental newspapers like El-Ahram and El-Akhbar which didn't participate in the daring decision the opposition and independent newspapers reached last day in Cairo in the syndication of journalists in response to the provoking New press law which limits ,sorry which kills the freedom of press
They all agree not to issue their newspapers next week starting from next Sunday , of course the governmental newspapers didn't participate in this decision ,so I call you to boycott it , you can get your news from the internet
For those who don't know the government and the regime which promotes the freedom of press and that president Mubarak's care for freedom of press and his attitudes against the jail of journalists ,this government is cooking a new law to kill the freedom of press either you pay 50,000 Egyptian pounds or you jail , not to mention the new charge of insulting the president , already famous journalist Ibrahim Eissa is going to be jailed for one year for this new charge

  1. This is a great cause and a very good campaign .. I stopped reading govermental papers years ago anyway ..

But I must disagree with you in the issue of calling to stop writing or blogging for a week ,, as it is against the cause itself I guess .. They want us to shut up and stop writing ,, so I am not sure we should give them what they want.

  3. Well Zeinobia, thanks for bringing this topic up, I do not know why people are not talking about Journalists as they did with judges.
Anyway, I agree with the campaign , but why it is so shy and only involving boycot ?
