We ; the People of Damietta ..

We ;the people of Damietta ; announce our total refusal of having the Chemical factory in our land as it endangers our environment in the Governorate and so we are offering to buy the land on which the factory is built on by a price twice higher than the original estimated price of the land.
Ladies and gentlemen; this is a summary for the petition and the offer presented by a delegation from the people of Damietta to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Hosni Mubarak yesterday . The petition was delivered to his office personally by a delegation from the locals for the first time in history in Egypt.
The story goes like this : "I knew it from one of the locals of Damietta"
The Government wanted to build a chemical factory some where near n610549090_331042_254 the sea "I do not know why ; may be it is Petro-Chemical one" ; the factory was rejected in Alexandria and Port Said due to its dangers on the environment , it will destroy the marine life and pollute the sea, but for certain reason the Governor of Damietta accepted to host this factory in a location that would destroy the environment. Of course in a democratic non corrupted Country such project must take the approval from the people after scientific studies . Anyhow the people of Damietta themselves formed a committee from their researchers and scientists to prove its dangers and presented the results of this committee to the cabinet , still the cabinet insisted on going on in the project till they finished building the factory, it did not operate yet "hopefully it won't"
The people of Damietta did not have any other civilized legal last resort except to send a petition to President Mubarak along with a precious generous offer to buy the land of the factory by a price twice higher the original one.
I do not know if the President will listen to them or not , it is wise to listen to them now because he needs some points as he lost a lot in the last few week , again this is a wise thing not to mention it is the correct thing.
Already Mubarak from two weeks told his cabinet to convince and to n610549090_331038_7470explain to the people of Damietta the importance of this factory.
This factory as I said before will destroy the environment. The marine life will be destroyed thanks to the chemical wastes that will be dumped in the Mediterranean with all the consequences of this pollution including the economical one ; the poor fishermen will lose their source of living.
Damietta's pride and Egypt's first historical resort Ras El-Bar will be n610549090_331040_8927 destroyed forever . Ras El-Bar in the past was the elite's resort ,already built in the 19 century by a French Man who wanted it to by like Cannes , all the Elite like the Royal Family, the pashas and the celebs like Om Kalthoum till the revolution used to spend the summer between Ras El-Bar and Alexandria , its location made a perfect place between the Nile and the Mediterranean. Now it is the resort of the middle and working classes in Egypt
My friend from Damietta told me proudly that they are trying to get n610549090_329698_4329 back its glory again. He showed a very beautiful pictures of the city that made feel so sad and angry , I have never been there but I wish to go there before it is destroyed.
The father of my grand father used to own one of those wooden old cabins there before the revolution , it used to look so beautiful , I do not know why they had sold it.
Anyhow Good luck for the people of Damietta , I wish that Mubarak will be wise enough and accept the petition and offer because God Knows how much he needs the approval of people now more than ever , people are fed up more and more.

Pictures of Ras El-Bar which will be destroyed from the chemical wastes of this ugly big factory
The people of Damietta acted in a civilized way still will they get a civilized response !!??
Why do they want to destroy everything beautiful in this country ??
If they do want not this country , we want it !!

  1. Achmet Bey, the last mameluke
    governor would have think
    likewise. Consider the downside
of the factory for the people.
